Changed camshaft position sensor, about $25, top back of engine at end of valve cover. Engine revs to 4500 and seems to have a lot more power. Took about 5 minutes to replace!
On a 1996 Ford Ranger ( ASSUMING it is the same setup on your 1996 Mazda b3000 ) the fuel pump shut off switch ( inertia switch with the reset button on top ) is located in the front passenger footwell , in the corner , above the carpet and below the dash
There are two fuse panels; one on the power distribution box in the engine compartment located over the driver's side fender and one above the driver's footwell. The PCM (Powertrain Control Module)is located on the passenger's side of the engine compartment, along the upper edge of the firewall. - Haynes Repair Manual #36071
The ECM on the 2000 Mazda Protege is located on the backside of the engine. It is half way up above the drive shaft.
The 2000 Mazda IAT sensor can be found on the back of the engine. The IAT sensor will be just above the bell housing.
The 2003 Mazda engine coolant temperature sensor is located on the front of the engine, above the thermostat housing. The sensor will have to wires leading to it.

At the rear of the engine, directly in the center, just above the transmission. If you look to the right of your firewall, you can find it by tracing the left heater hose down to the back of the engine. This answer is applicable for 1990-2005 Mazda Miatas.
For the front there is a tiny bolt above and to the outside of the headlight assembly that screws thru the fender into the turn siignal assembly. For the back the assembly is screwed in by 2 screws on the tailgate side and 2 screws on the outside.
If you have changed all the Plugs, wires and coil pak then look at the fuel injector on that cylinder. Might be a good idea to replace them all. Should clear it up. My 99 B3000 had the same problem. The key was my fuel comsumption. As long as I held the RPM's above 2000, it ran fine. Ideling was a little shakey.
