The advantages of classifying mental disorders are many. Of course, it helps the doctor know what sort of medication to give you. It also helps you to understand what is happening to you and how to deal with the disorder. Some disadvantages would include other people labelling you as "mentally ill." Also, some people use their classification as an excuse not to try to improve themselves.
