In 1908 when Henry Ford started production of the model T all vehicles sold prior to this were very expensive and could only be purchased by the rich. The model T was easy to build, easy to operate, easy to repair, and could travel on the horrible roads that existed at the time. The initial price of the Model T in 1908 was $850 which was about one third the price of the average car being sold. By the late 1920 it was selling for $250 due to efficiency of the assembly line form of production he had perfected. This made the Model T so affordable that almost anyone could own a Model T. This put America on wheels.
