SNAFU means Situation Normal All F&^ked Up. It is one of many that military people use to describe situations that develop.

Situation Normal: All F#$%!ed Up is a typical response of a combat soldier to the experience of warfare. War to the man on the ground is difficult to understand and often appears meaningless (and often is meaningless). FUBAR is another example of this kind of semi-humour (F#$%!ed Up Beyond All Repair). These acronyms are associated with American GI's of WWII.
