Firing order on distributor cap 92 Mercury Topaz?

1-3-4-2.......2.3 L engine. Check where the rotor points when the engine is at compression stroke on the number 1, take out spark plug on first cly. and turn by hand. You will find it. when piston is at the top, look where the rotor points. Goog luck.

2.3L engine. If the dist. has not been moved. Looking at the engine from the front of the car, the number 1 position for the Ign. wire should be about the 11:00 0' clock position. Then turning clock wise the next one is for the number 3 cyl. then for the number 4 cyl. then the number 2. that's 1,3,4,2. The cyl. numbers from the front and your left side are 1, 2, 3, 4. If all has failed, then remove the number 1 spark plug, turn the engine over by the belt and with your finger in the spark plug hole you will feel the air push up at the T.D.C. position. When the piston is at the very top, look where the rotor is pointing ( with the cap off ) and that's where you plug in the number 1 spark plug wire. Good luck.
