Separation Movement in East Pakistan Started after Nation Assembly Elections in 1971. Political crisis were not tackled effectively by the statesmen of that time. Further to it Pakistan and India got involved in war which resulted in separation of East Pakistan (Bangladesh) from West Pakistan.
Inhabitants East Pakistan (1947 to 1971) have very little in common except common religion (Islam). They are different nation and speaks different languages. Dominatory and exploitetory role of West Pakistan leaders vis the main cause for separation.
After elections which took place in 1971, Sheikh Mujeeb of East Pakistan gained majority but in West Pakistan Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was chosen by public. Bhutto didn't accept victory of Mujeeb. This conflict resulted in riots and ultimately army intervention was made by Pakistan in East Pakistan. India took advantage of this situation and attacked Pakistani borders. This whole scenario resulted in separation of East Pakistan from West Pakistan.

The Mukti Bahini, or Freedom Fighters, were a Bengali force fighting against Pakistan for the separation of East Pakistan into what became Bangladesh during the Bangladesh Liberation War.
The Politicians of Pakistan, the bureaucracy and the Armed Forces of the then West Pakistan are chief culprits in this tragedy. Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto's stubbornness and lust for power led to the separation of this country.

Many factors contributed in the separation of East Pakistan but a few of them are mentioned below: 1. In Elections to choose Premier Leader (Prime Minister) mandate of people of East Pakistan was not taken into account. 2. Indian Secret Intelligence Services formed an Anti Pakistan Wing East Pakistan named as Mukti Bahini which actively participated in persuading Population of East Pakistan to demand for a separate country. 3. Bagla Language being the most prominent language of people of Eastern Pakistan was never given proper acknowledgement
Session of the first Constituent Assembly of Pakistan was held on August 10, 1947. The first civilian session of the National Assembly after separation of East Pakistan, was held on 14th April 1972.
