Christianism has varied root sources. It was born at a crossroads within the Greek and Roman empires, in a place where ideas often clashed and varied throughout history.
The earliest roots are in the melding of Greek and Jewish Gnosticism of the 2nd and 1st centuries bce, particularly that of the cynicoi (dog) sects of Greek and the mystic sects of Jewish cultures. As Roman ideas became predominant Mithraism became an interesting ingredient, especially in the form of the good shepherd. Later, when Christianism became the state religion of Rome, Jupiter, the great and merciless judge became the dominant form of influence.
Yet let's not ignore Egyptian, Celtic, or German, Hindu, and Buddhist sources. As Christianism moved into an area, the native religions often donned the language and customs of the new faith, without losing the body of the original, native culture of faith. This becomes clear with the adoption by the church of the Druidic custom that became the roots of monasticism, or the adoption of the Norse traditions surrounding winter solstice. This melding continues today as Native Americans and Mexicans take on the trappings of Christianism while maintaining their own flavor. See the predominant cult of Santa Muerte, who despite the efforts of the Catholic Church, remains the ever loving Cabróna of the ancient Mexicatle.

About five hundred years, give or take a hundred.
Some have dated the start of Christianity - God's Church - on the 1st Pentecost in 31 A.D. in Jerusalem - part of the modern nation state of Israel.
Christianity did develop in that part of the world. It originated among the Jewish followers of Jesus of Nazareth, who believed that he was the promised Messiah (or 'Christ'), but the Christian Church soon became an independent organization, largely through the missionary efforts of St. Paul.
