A:The prophet Jeremiah and his readers were very familiar with the Book of Genesis. When wanting to remind his readers of the debt they owed God, Jeremiah only needed to mention the creation story most briefly, and they would have understood. Additional Comments:As this was a God-centered or Theocratic society, all knew the Scripture. Jeremiah was emphasizing the creative power of God, drawing upon the imagery more from Job 38 and Psalm 8, as well as Genesis 1:1-24.God's Prophet was reminding them that by God's power, wisdom and understanding/discretion, the Earth and the heavens were brought into orderly existence. It was by the command of His voice. Jeremiah was also reminding the people of Judah that not only did God create the Universe but He also governs its ongoing physical life (verse 13).
