Through Super Bowl XLII: 1) Mike Bass of the Washington Redskins returned a Garo Yepremian fumble 49 yards for a TD in Super Bowl VII. The play is quite possibly the best blooper in Super Bowl history. Yepremian was the Dolphins kicker and attempted a 42 yard field goal with a little more than two minutes left in the game to cement Miami's 14-0 lead. The kick was blocked and the ball bounced back to Yepremian who, instead of falling on the ball, picked it up and attempted a pass but the ball slipped out of his hands. He then batted the ball in the air and it was caught by Bass who ran down the sidelines 49 yards for a score, the only Redskins score in the game. Between Percy Harvin's return for a touchdown in Super Bowl XLVIII and Ron Dixons touchdown return on Super Bowl XXXV, there was one other kickoff return for the touchdown. Baltimore Raven Jacoby Jones set a Super Bowl record with a 108 yard return for a touch down in Super Bowl XLVII.
The opening kickoff has only been returned for a touchdown once during a Super Bowl. This was accomplished by Devin Hester of the Chicago Bears during Super Bowl XLI.
