In April 1998, Spain experienced a dangerous toxic spill that flowed into the Guadalquivir River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean. They thought that it endangered many birds and other animals. This toxic mud covered farms, fields and orchards which caused the farmers to suffer enormous economic losses.
