You can also try PrimoPDF, a freeware. Once this is installed in your computer, you can use it to convert any document under an application with a Print Option. For example, you can open your .doc file in MS word, press "print" and then choose primopdf as your printer. you can also use it for images and other stuff.

- Have you tried renaming the file extension from .pdf to .doc?
It may work, just be sure to have a spare copy in case it doesn't.
