How are diamonds a non renewable resource?

Diamonds are extracted from the earth's surface and cannot be renewed by man. New sources of diamonds are discovered when Mother Nature reveals a new volcanic cone where diamonds have been forming for millions of years. There is nothing a human can do to renew natural diamond deposits.

At one time diamonds were a product of nature alone and a non-renewable resource. However with the progress of technology manufactured diamonds have been created that are superior in many ways to natures. These are used in electronics, industrial applications and jewellery. The fact that they can be created from abundant carbon makes them both renewable and not a natural resource.Interestingly, even when diamonds were a natural resource they were more commonly used for industrial processes than ornaments. The diamond consortiums inflated their price by creating artificial scarcity on the market.

Manufactured diamonds are considerably cheaper than the natural stones because they are not subject to the same marketing controls.
