Fish can be caught in a multitude of ways. Most people use a rod and reel to catch fish. This features a long pole with a string going down the length of it. The pole (or "rod") is used to fling the string far out into the water. At the end of the string (or "line") is a hook, which is used to catch the fish. A weight may also be attached in order to fling the hook out further and help it sink in the water. A float can be attached somewhere along the line in order to keep the hook from sinking to far. Fish are attracted to the hook by some sort of bait, this can be almost anything: live worms, puff balls, small fish, fish eggs, and pieces of metal are allfrequently used. After the fish is hooked, it is brought in by reeling the line in using a reel. This method is actually highly ineffective at catching fish, thus it is termed "sport fishing" to reflect its difficulty. Most fish are caught using a net or trap. Dip-netting is the act of using a giant net on a very long pole to catch fish while standing waist deep in water. Over 50 fish can be caught in one day using this method. Commercial fishermen pull a gigantic net behind a boat to catch even larger quantities of fish. This is where most fish you would buy at a store comes from. Fish can also be caught in large quantities by using a "fish wheel," a small wheel which turns in the water and traps fish.
