Hammerheads are one of the medium sized species of sharks, which make them an easy target for fishermen. Their fins are a delicacy. As a result of overfishing, hammerhead numbers have fallen drastically in many of their habitats. Fishermen usually cut off their fins and toss the remainder of the fish into the sea to die a horrible death. Loss of habitat is another danger to these sharks. Because of widespread uncontrolled hunting, hammerheads are considered an "endangered" species. Unless hunting them is stopped soon, these species may become extinct very soon.
The great hammerhead shark, the winghead shark, and the scalloped shark are the three endangered species of hammerhead sharks, and the smalleye shark, another type of hammerhead shark, is on the vulnerable animal list.
Indeed they are facing extinction mainly because of growing appetites for shark meat and for the Asian delicacy shark-fin soup, which are proving too much for populations of the slow-growing animals

Great Whites and people are predators of Hammerheads.

I don't believe so. Only three of nine species are dangerous, they are all endangered, and you more likely to be 10,000 times more likely to be bit by a new yorker than a shark

Scientists are trying to help them but they need donations and groups to convince the government to help the poor things. But yes the population is growing. Inform friends and family that sharks aren't all that bad.
