homogenous mixtures can only be chemically sperated. For example; by distillation, chromatography, or gel electrophoresis. Heterogenous mixtures are physically separated by filtration, decantation, etc.

Mixtures can be separated in a variety of ways. Since most substances do not have exactly the same density as other substances with which they may be mixed, you can separate them with a centrifuge. And since the substances may also have different boiling points, you can separate them by distillation. And since they probably have different freezing points as well, you can separate them with cold. And then there are cases in which one substance undergoes a kind of chemical reaction that another substances doesn't, which sometimes allows you to add a reagant which will cause a particular chemical to form a precipitate. Some mixtures are self-separating; just let them sit and eventually they will form layers, which can be simply decanted. Those are the main methods.
