A drop of water works like a magnifying glass when the sun shines hit it is reflects the light onto a dry piece of grass/wood/anything dry the water droplet makes the light stronger causing it to be warmer. The twig catches on fire and spreads onto other dry thing making the fire bigger and bigger.

More usually they are started by lightening strikes or by careless human activities.

Natural wildfires are often started by lightning, extreme heat, and volcanic eruptions. In damp conditions the fire would not spread far, however during dry periods the damage from the fire could be vast.
