Although there is an indirect democracy in place in this country and the overwhelming consensus of the electorate is that the rich should be taxed more, this is not being done. As a result, the same representatives who have been elected to push forward the agenda of the average citizens are persuaded by lobbyists instead to push forward bills to benefit the wealthy.
