People are greedy because of a fundamental flaw in human nature- it exists in everyone. To quote an ancient text, "What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions."
Now there is a hidden implication in this passage. Did you catch it or did it zip right past you? The word "desire" is at the heart of this, and can be also be termed as Greed Lust, Envy, and a host of others as well.
It's human nature to want more- a bigger house, a bigger salary, more roadtrips, finer dinners, designer clothes, name-brand cars... it's all a vicious cycle that leaves us empty at the end of the day. It's only when people find OTHERS and are genuine toward them (loving, open, caring, generous) that they come off of their greedy spell and have a taste of humanity.
