Scorpions are arachnids. All adult insects have three body sections, the head, the body, and the thorax, and each one is visibly separated from the others. Scorpions clearly don't have such segments, and therefor aren't insects.

∙ 10y agoThe segmented body and an exoskeleton containing a layer of chitin is a feature shared by all Arthropoda, including both scorpions and insects. However, insects only include Arthropoda with three pairs of legs and three body segments, a head, thorax, and abdomen. Scorpions do not have these segments, and, belonging to the Arachnida, are more closely related to Spiders than insects. Spiders are not insects either; they don't have the defining segments of insects.
