It is a fairly simple loophole that is being used to get past these laws which outlaw these products.
These herbs are simply sprayed with a synthetic cannibinoid, the most famous two being used are JWH-018 and JWH-073.
Basically how this works, is even though the JWH chemicals have a completely different chemical structure then THC, it reacts with your cannibinoid receptors in your brain, which gives you a feeling similar to smoking marijuana.
Well all they did was make JWH-018 and JWH-073 illegal, which means all a chemist has to do is come up with a different chemical which reacts with the same receptors.
Call this chemical HU,2,39, and then spray the leaves with that.
Then when they outlaw this chemical, make a new one, and keep doing this forever.
There are so many organic chemist graduated in the USA and other countries turning to drug manufacturing because they can not land legitimate jobs, and the precursors for cannibinoids seem to be cheap and readily available.
Within the next 30 days they are making 5 more synthetic cannibinoids illegal in USA (as of nov 24th 2010) -- I give it 90 day before a new product sprayed with a new chemical is being sold in head shops as the new legal alternative.
From my experience, no there is not. I smoked incense for a couple months before I realized that it was stupid as hell. It's hard on your body and can make you dumber, but one time won't effect you at all. Again, only basing on my own experience.
