The Ten Commandments are God's "spiritual laws" [Rom.7:14] of "Love" that man needs to learn. They represent the foundation of successful "relationships."
The Bible breaks them down into two categories of personal relationship: Our Love of God -- and our Love toward our Neighbor [anyone who isn't you].
"...Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the First and Great Commandment.
"And the Second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy Neighbour as thyself. On these Two Commandments hang all the law and the prophets." (Matt.22:37-40)
These are the rejected and hated laws among men in this world, which God's Children need to learn to "keep" in their hearts, and obey and live by, in order to live in PEACE-- both NOW... as well as for all of their Eternal Lives!
Presently, mankind is learning the results of not keeping the Commandments -- of not loving God and one another. He's learning about the opposite of love: hatred, jealousy, envy, lust, greed. All the things that deprive us of world peace, happiness and joy. All the things that "destroy relationships."
This "first phase" of life man is living is the "training ground" for learning how to "get along with one another." How are we doing so far? Yet, learning the tragic lessons of how not to get along with God and our fellowman is important. It's been said, How can you know how good good is if you don't experience the bad?
Ultimately... our Creator tells us that He will write His Commandments in the hearts of His Children... after man fully experiences the "other side of Righteousness" [see Ps.119:172].
"...this is the covenant that I will make with the House of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put My laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts... and they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for ALL SHALL KNOW ME, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." (Heb.8:10-12)
The "conclusion of the matter" is also divided in two: Fear God, and keep His Commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." (Eccle.12:13)
