Why are Socs bad and Greasers good ? The narrator and protagonist, Ponyboy, is struggling with that question too. Before meeting Cherry (a Soc) it was easy to answer: Socs are rich and act cruelly without motivation; they have all the advantages (tuff cars, jewelry, girls) and pick on the poor kids for kicks. Greasers, on the other hand, are downtrodden and basically good. The ones that aren't good are at least honorable (e.g. Dally takes the rap for a crime he didn't commit). After meeting and finding common ground with Cherry, Pony Boy struggles with identity and class division. He begins to understand that Socs like Cherry are like him in many ways. He comes to understand that individual identity is more than group identity.
Good God man, your asking the question of the entire book! To put it in short terms there are two things that separate a soc from a greaser, money and emotion. In the book Socs are a little like rag dolls, they go with the flow and do what everyone else is doing but they put no emotion in it. Greasers on the other hand are rebellious and aren't afraid to go against the curve. Everything they do they do with emotion because that's all they have. That and there hair.
The way that the greasers are different from the socs, is that the socs are rich, snotty, stuck-up kids because they get whatever they want. And the greasers are people that come from poor families and violent families so they don't get what they they would have to work for it.
Well it really depends on which greaser or Soc your comparing. For example Cherry vs. Dally, Dally is more of a menance or Bob vs. Ponyboy, Bob is more a menance. Like Cherry says in the books not all Soc are bad. Also not all greasers are bad.
The Socs beat them up if they see a greaser!
The Socs are a bunch of rich, spoiled city kids. While on the other hand though, the greasers and very poor kids (some living on the streets) that have nothing to live for.
Greasers are poor and some have miserable lives. The Socs are rich and they get whatever then want and they can do whatever they want.
The greasers care about each other
The Socs challenged the Greasers The Socs challenged the Greasers
The greasers are poor and they respect and care eachother. the socs are disrespectful they think they can do every thing just because they are rich.
Because they are from different sides of NY, different social statuses, and frankly, the socs look down on the greasers because they have greasy hair, and they are MUCH richer. Ponyboy is from the Greasers.
The rumble is when the Greasers "have it out" with the socs. Its when the greasers and the socs fight.

The Socs were the richer side of the neighborhood, while the Greasers were the less fortunate side.
The Greasers resented the power and influence the Socs had because they were wealthy. The Greasers felt like they were powerless because they were poor.
