In case of mechanical waves, ie waves propagating through material medium the amplitude of the waves decides the intensity of the waves as intensity is directly proportional to the square of its amplitude.

Pitch is related to the frequency of the wave. As pitch increases then in one second more number of waves would cross a particular point in the medium. If velocity of the wave in the medium remains constant, the wavelength gets reduced as the pitch increases.

The greater the amplitude of a sound wave, the louder the sound will be. Amplitude is very much the same as volume. There are exceptions to the former, however, as humans are able to hear some sound frequencies more than others. This explains why higher frequency (pitch) sounds are often perceived as louder than low frequency sounds of equal amplitude.

What are the factors affect the pitch of sound?

okay whoever said that mass affected pitch is just stupid.... Frequency and amplitude affect pitch

What factors affect the pitch?

Loudness, pitch and timbre are approximately the correlates of signal amplitude, frequency and frequency spectrum, respectively.

How wavelength frequency and amplitude affect the charasterics?

The wavelength and frequency affect how the way is perceived. In sound it would affect the pitch that you hear, in the visible light spectrum it would affect what color you see. The amplitude would be how easy it is to perceive, it is the intensity (magnitude) of the wave.

Pitch is to frequency as loudness is to?

Loudness depends on the amplitude. square of amplitude is proportional to the loudness. Pitch is decided by the frequency. One can sing at higher pitch but at lower voice.

What is a relationship of frequency and volume and amplitude and pitch?

Frequency is related to pitch; volume is related to amplitude.

What is musical amplitude?

a musical amplitude it the wave lenth of the pitch

Is the amplitude of a sound wave determined by the sounds pitch?

yes because amplitude is based an the pitch of the sound

What affect if any does frequency have on the amplitude of a wave?

The sound pressure amplitude tells about how loud the tone will be and the frequency (cycles per second) of the oscillation tells how high the sound of the tone will be. The amplitude gives the loudness of the tone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness The frequency gives the pitch of the tone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitch_%28music%29

You hear the amplitude of a wave as?

The amplitude is the volume, while the frequency is the pitch.

What do the amplitude and frequency of a sound wave represent?

Amplitude: 'loudness'Frequency: 'pitch'

What properties of waves affect the pitch and loudness of sound?

The frequency of a wave affects the pitch of sound, with higher frequencies producing higher pitched sounds. The amplitude of a wave affects the loudness of sound, with greater amplitudes producing louder sounds.

How is pitch and amplitude different?

Loudness, pitch and timbre are approximately the correlates of signal amplitude, frequency and frequency spectrum, respectively.
