Length is a one-dimensional measure; volume is three-dimensional.

As to the difference of volume and mass: the mass is sometimes informally called the "amount of matter"; in the same volume of - say - a cubic centimeter, there can be a mass of zero (for a vacuum - near zero for air), of a few grams (for normal liquids and solids), of several tons (for the matter in a white dwarf), or of millions of tons (for the matter in a neutron star). In other words, it all depends how tightly matter is packed.

Why is length and volume the same?

Length and volume are not the same, any more than time and mass are the same. They are different properties that are measured with different units.A cube that has a height and length and width of one unit will have a volume of one cubic unit, but that does not mean that it is correct to say that its length and volume are the same. Saying that is like saying that an hour weighs the same as a kilogram.

How SI units for volume and density are derived from SI base units for length and mass?

Unit of length is m and that of mass is kg Now volume is length x length x lenght. SO volume would have the unit mxmxm = m3 Density = mass / volume So unit for density = kg /m3
