The answer really depends on what you are shooting at, and how far from you are from the target. Also, is it windy, is the shell high velocity or subsonic, etc. etc.
The other point to consider is where on the target you strike. If the target is a human head, and you hit the outer ear, it will make a hole. If you hit the forehead close up, it will do enough damage to kill. If you are very far away and hit the forehead, it may simply bounce off the skull.
