Sulctas are the third largest tortoise species in the world, and the largest mainland species. Adults usually grow to 24-36 inches long. Full grown males can weigh nearly 200 pounds and be close to 3 feet in length. Females tend to be smaller, but may still tip the scales at close to 100 pounds. I do not know how big they can get, but the largest Sulcata Tortise ever recorded was 240 pounds.
-Hope it helps!
How is the environment a threat to the african sulcata tortoise?
sulcata
Up to 200 years in the wild. In captivity, the oldest on record was 54 in a zoo in Egypt.
they can be has big as the tortoise
Well, it depends on the type of tortoise you have. If you have a sulcata or leopard tortoise they can live in your backyard if you have a lot of room for them to roam. If you have a tropical tortoise like a red-footed tortoises you would need to put him either in a big tropical cage or in a tropical backyard.
Yes, there are a number of tortoise species around the world adapted to deserts and arid lands.
It depends how large the Sul is and the hermit usually yes but you should in mind that hermits need sponges and there own hideout plus the food. The thing is that the hermits food is meat and meals and that is not good for the Sulcata. Also Hermits Need A few shells and a climbing area. So yeah the do make a good mate for the sulcata Tortoise. Any other of the tort species will most likely eat it. I have a Sulcata Tort Named Gordan and he has a hermit crab with him. Doing fine! -Matthew
A tortoise shells size depends on how big the tortoise is, it's age and its breed.
Rhamphomyia sulcata was created in 1804.
as big as a baseball
Real big
Growth factors include availability of food, lack of predation, and genetic proclivity for large size. Given all these variables, a tortoise could achieve the size of a small dinosaur or a large mammal.
