A borzoi (AKA: Russian Wolfhound) is a long coated breed from Russia. They were the favorite breed of the Tsars and were used in royal wolf hunts where they would have a borzoi (or a pack of borzoi - usuall three - 1 female and 2 males) chase down a wolf and hold it there until the hunters arrive. They are a large breed, averaging 28 inches - 33 inches at the shoulder and weight around 60 - 90 pounds. Despite its size, it is an extremely agile hunter and some can reach speeds up to 30 miles and hour. They can come in a multitude of colors and color combinations - but, merles are not seen in this breed. If they do appear, it is extremely rare. Borzoi have a long, narrow head with obliquely set eyes that are usually dark in color. Today, borzoi make great companions for many people. They are gentle, loving, and well mannered. They aren't big barkers, but some still maintain their hunting instincts, so, be careful with them around small animals such as rabbits, cats, and even small dogs such as chihuahuas.
Great Dane (6 years) Irish wolfhound (6.2 years) Bloodhound (6.75 years) Scottish Deerhound (7 years) Borzoi (7 years) Boxer (8.2) Dalmatian (10 years) just a few examples usally bigger dogs dont live as long as smaller ones. this is because larger breeds are proned to get heart disease, spinal disease and hip dysplasia. Ive done a lot of searching on this question, some of the forums i find give completely horrible answers like hes a toy breed, but in the Shippuden series Akamaru gets really big, big enough for Kiba to ride on his back, the closest I've come to finding a breed like Akamaru's would be a Great Pyrenees. this is from kira-chan i would probaly say in the first naruto he looks kinda like a shiba inu. but ths may just be me. ----------------------------------------- From the stand point of a veterinarian, the only dog that would come close to the sheer size of Akamaru (height and lengthwise) would have to be the Irish Wolfhound. But since I don't believe neither the manga nor the anime mention it, it's hard to say for sure. It could be that he is a mix of both the Great Pyrenees and the Irish Wolfhound. This would account for both his muscular physique & coat (Pyrenees bloodline) and his size (Irish Wolfhound).
Are you trying to say 'What is the Irish for 'big'? If so, it's mór.
