Look at this link and there will be several articles here. That is the only one that notes that they can grow up to ten feet. Even if they can, it is probably not average. They seem to be four to six feet on average.

a great barracuda can grow up to 1.8 meters (6 ft) long. ;D

Biggest lenght is just over 6ft....even though there have been reports of fish in 8-9ft range, but no photos or catches to prove it.
