You cannot do that. What you need is a row of headers within the spreadsheet cells. You would usually supply these on row 1. although try this Tools > Options > GeneralTab > check the box marked "R1C1 reference
style".........that will change columns A, B, C, etc to columns 1, 2, 3,
etc..... other than that, I know of no other way to change them to be

Column headings in Excel are letters by default. The only thing you can change them to is numbers. To do this go to the Tools... Options menu, select the General tab and put a check mark next to where it says 'R1C1 Reference Style'.
However, this will make referring to cells when you write formulas very awkward indeed because you will no longer be able to refer to a cell by its location, for example B12 or AA26.
You will have to refer to it as a relative position from the cell containing the formula, for example R[-26]C[-12]. All in all I think the default system is much easier.
