It gives a general healthy guideline for weight based on height and age. That will let you know if you are within healthy levels for your age and height.

Yes, a 12 year old can get fat if he/she overdoes calories and forgets about exercise. With food, it's everything in moderation. Unless it's prescribed by a doctor, there should be no need for a 12 year old to go on a diet. And you have to get off the couch and move. It doesn't have to be worrisome exercise. Walking is always the best, especially if you have a buddy to walk with you. If you like to dance, then dance away. It is always important to be active as a young person.
