Pathogens (bacteria and viruses that cause disease) can enter the body through various passages. Skin provides good protection against entry from pathogens so your vulnerable areas are your eyes, nose, mouth, ears and open wounds. Your (unwashed) hands can deliver pathogens to these areas.

Airborne pathogens will enter through the mouth or nose as you breath them in.

Pathogens in food will enter through your mouth into your digestive system.

Pathogens can also enter through "vectors" directly into the blood stream - through mosquitos, fleas, ticks or contaminated needles, for example.

It is important to remember that the body has many natural defenses to prevent pathogens entering the body, such as blood clotting at wounds, and enzymes in the eyes, nose and mouth that break down harmful bacteria.

Depends on the agent(s) invovled. Biological weapons agents enter the target body aerobically (via breathing), by oral/nasal injestion, through the skin, and also, in contact with agent that's settled on a surface -- from there to your hands, to your mouth -- this is why there is so much emphasis on washing all the time in an NBC zone.

They can enter the body in various ways. Mouth, nose, skin, ear, eyes, etc. Any entry way for bacteria is an entry way for disease- causing agents. Hand contact with someone who has those agents can cause one to

Once contact occurs, disease-causing agents, such as viruses and bacteria, may enter a person through breaks in the skin, or they may be inhaled or swallowed. Others may enter the body through the moist linings of the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, or other body openings.

they enter through the portal of entry, ways they can get in are through cuts and openings in the skin. They can get in through your mouth eyes and nose. If someone sneezes or coughs, the water droplets containing bacteria will get on you

What are four ways that organisms can use mitosis!! hurry i need help, im doing my science homework! thanks........ :)

How is a vaccine created?

There are two different ways to make a vaccine: killed and live attenuated. In making a killed vaccine you grow the actual disease causing organisms, harvest them and treat them with something that kills them and chops them up (chemicals, UV, heat, etc.) These are usually very effective vaccines but often have rare severe side effects. In making a live attenuated vaccine there are several ways: use a closely related organism that normally does not cause disease in man (this is what Jenner did), use the actual disease causing organism but grow it in a different animal so it causes only a weak disease in man, or use the actual disease causing organism but after harvesting them treat them with something that does not kill them but slows their growth enough that the immune system gets a good chance to finish them off. The biggest drawback here is that sometimes the organisms revert and actually cause the real disease.
