If you are lucky enough to have raccoons the most common reaction is to run away. If you would like to make contact with them just bow your head and dont move toward them. The raccoon will in turn bow its head to you. If you keep this up after a few times you will have a great visitior.

Human hunters and vehicular accidents kill more raccoons than any other cause and, because of these, the wild raccoon has a life span of only 2-3 years opposed to 15-20 years for a captive raccoon.

Raccoons generally avoid confrontations with humans. However, sick raccoons may pose a danger if they are infected with the rabies virus or with roundworms or another sickness transmissible to humans. In most cases, raccoons are more of a pest than a danger to humans because of their food foraging habits.
