Be CarefulPersonally, i wouldn't be that worried about damaging an 89 Mercury, but just be careful with it. Take skinny screwdrivers, or a small pocket knife and gently pry outward while holding the lever that opens it so u don't break the latch. If its the latch itself that's stuck, that's a little tougher. You can try silicon spray (or WD40) on the mechanism, and hit it (i know, i know, not very scientific, but sometimes it works) gently with your fist to jiggle loose whatever got jammed into it. Basically, be careful and patient. You may also be able to remove the dashboard and get to it that way (lots of work, though, i'd try this last). Good luck.
