I built a sandbox out of an old tractor tire that I acquired from a local tire store for free. It is about 4 feet in diameter and fit in the back of my light pickup. I took it home and cut the side wall off with a jig saw with a fine tooth blade. The tire was nylon belted on the walls so there are no slivers.
It works great and is very earth friendly.
