It is not a batter light, it is a charging system light. It is on because there is a problem with the charging system. Most likely a defective alternator.

There are several synonyms of the term 'disable'. These include: attent, batter, blunt, damage, disarm, disenable, disqualify, exhaust, hamstring, handicap, harm, hock, and hogtie.
If you lost power while driving it could be the alternator. Its not charging your batter anymore
I think your battery is down or worse yet your batter charger is no longer charging the battery and hence needs replacement.

your car is usually has a 12 volt battery, on the charger set it to 12 volt charge, the batter will tell you how long to charge it usually 4 hours, do not overcharge, will damage battery :)

Did you run out of gas...? You may have a battery relay problem as well. If your engine wasnt turnign properly to charge the batter, or more likely if the charging cables werent connected properly.
Always water your battery after the cool down period. The best practice for conventional forklift batteries are - 8 WORKING HOURS, 8 HOURS OF CHARGE, & 8 HOURS COOL DOWN. Water the batter prior to use; if required.
The batter uses 5 Volts for charging and it takes 1 hour to fully charge your iphone which is 7 Watts.
try charging it for 3 hours if that doesn't work you could try and ask the manufacturer or try to see if the batter is taking the charge or see if the batter needs replacing by testing it's specifications against a volt/ amp meter
