There are many people that believe animals are important members of society. These people are especially in tune with the needs of animals and have a lot of sympathy for their helplessness and dependence on humans. Jobs are available for these people that will allow them to use that empathy in a positive way to help those animals that need them the most.

The most common job available to people wanting to work with animals is shelter work. Local pounds and shelters constantly need people to help clean cages, walk dogs, and feed all of the animals. The pay is not fantastic but the experience will last a life time. There are also jobs on farms that require constant interaction with animals. Horses need to be ridden, pigs need to be fed, and barns need to be cleaned. This is tough work that is not for the weak willed or the weak stomached but can provide very usable experience.

While it requires a great deal of education, veterinarians are able to work with animals all day and help more animals than almost any other job. It requires the equivalent of a medical degree to do this job and a person must be able to handle the smells and blood that come along with surgery. There are few jobs that will make a person feel they have truly improved an animal's life more than becoming a veterinarian. For those that can not afford to pay for school, veterinarians are constantly hiring vet techs. Vet techs assist the veterinarian in all of their duties. While the pay of these positions is not nearly as good as that of a vet, it is still a very fulfilling and enjoyable experience for someone that is drawn to working with animals.

It takes a special kind of personality to care for animals enough to center an entire career around them. These animals live longer and happier lives because of the people that take care of them. Ultimately, society is a better place to be because these people are so dedicated to taking care of the animals that make everybody's lives a little more enjoyable.
