The Name Grand Am SE is short for "Grand American Special Edition". As for getting more power out of a 1999 Grand Am, which I am assuming has the 3.1L V6 in it: the easiest and most practical way to add hundreds of horsepower is to trade it in for either an SLP Camaro SS or an anniversary Trans Am w/ WS6 option. The second option is to tow it behind a Silverado. General Motors has a variety of those short little add-ons for every vehicle line they produce. They are usually thrown on anytime a new option is added to the vehicle line . Other useless nuggets of knowledge: SS = Super Sport GS = Grand Sport GTO = Grand Turismo Omologotto (I'm quite sure I murdered the correct spelling of that last word) LE = Luxury Edition SC = Sport Coupe Trans Am = Trans American Answer #2 Wow, That last guy is a bit of a jerk. Try www.partsforyourcar.com to look at exhaust upgrades as well as cold air intakes etc. My daughter has a 99 se with the quad 4 which produces 180 horsepower with no upgrades.
