Get an E-Collar from your Vet. Note: Cats hate E-collars and are prone to walk backward and run into walls, etc. because they are spatial animals and need their whiskers for navigation. Hi, I had this problem with my cat. She kept opening up a wound on her back by licking it. Then I noticed that hairs were getting stuck to the wound. I thought that perhaps it could be the discomfort caused by the stuck hair that made her lick, so I gave her a nice neat trim and hey presto - no more licking and the wound healed beautifully in a couple of days. Don't put oinment on it either - my cat's reaction to the application of antiseptic cream was to lick it straight off.

If your cat is itching he is probably allergic to something, and there's a good chance it's his food. Many brands put things in their cat food that can cause reactions, like wheat, soy, etc. Putting him on a natural cat food with limited ingredients will help. Many brands like Natural Balance make formulas specifically for allergic cats, and they have many dry and canned varieties.

Clean it out with hydrogen peroxide; the bacteria in the wound is what causes the swelling and redness. Antibiotic cream is also good. Most cat scratches don't scar, even if they're nasty in the short term.

Cat scratching happens for many reason. One of these is the fact that cats need to keep their nails sharp and trimmed. Scratching also helps to exercise the cats muscles. Cats make other cats aware of their presence with their scratches. Stopping a cat from scratching might be hard but one can try things such as a scratching post.

Cat has a cut above eye what do you do?

Cats are very tough animals. Unless the cut is serious, it will probably heal on its own. If you are not sure, take it to a veterinarian. Also, I have treated wounds on cats with petroleum jelly and had good results.

Chickens heal very well, so it will quite possibly heal on its own. I'd put a little Neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment on the wound, though.
