If your chicken is a couple months old, the you need to look at their wing feathers. here are the steps:
- First you need to catch the chicken.
- Put your fingers, not your thumb, under the wing.
- Then gently press your thumb to the wing.
- Carefully pull the wing away from the body...CAREFULLY!! It may pull it's wing away, so you may have to calm it down. Use soothing words and whispers, then redo the steps.
- Now spread the wing out, and if the feathers are short near the body and long in the front...it is a rooster. But if it is all the same length...it's a hen!!!

∙ 11y agoi dont know if you mean gender or in general but if you want to tell baby chicks apart you can put some food colouring on them until they grow big enough to tell them apart. if you want to tell which gender they are you may have to get a profession chicken breeder to try.

∙ 15y agoYou can't really tell when they are really young. When they get older it is easier too tell. Some people have gotten chicks and thought they were all girls until 6 months later. After they are a few weeks old, the males will develop a definite comb and spurs. I know the sex can be determined while they are still just a fertilized egg, but I don't know how they do it.
