How can you tell if a dog is spayed?

Ferrets that are adopted from pet shelters, or bought from pet stores will be neutered. The largest breeder of ferrets in the US - Marshall Farms will have two blue tattoo dots on the ears indicating it has been neutered. Private breeders usually will not sell a ferret without the agreement that you have the ferret neutered

To tell if your new dog has already been spayed you can ask the adoption agency you went through. In addition, there will be a scar about six inches in length on the dogs stomach. This scar starts at about the belly button (3 inches from the bottom of the rib-cage) and extends from that point.

If you want to check quickly (not very accurate) see if there is a vertical scar going down her abdomen, it will usually be a lighter color than her skin.

If you want more accurate results, go to the veterinarian, and they can take an xray and see if your dog is still intact.

Or, you can wait a year and see if your dog goes into heat (this happens twice a year) although you should probably get your results quicker than that for vet information!

If they are not fixed, they will typically spend a lot of time yowling and howling very loudly for a mate. They may do this only periodically (once a month or every two weeks) or they may do it constantly, all day every day.

They also typically will drag their backsides around on the floor, or crouch down real low and wiggle their backsides up in the air.

They're just constantly very loud and active, instead of calm and sedate.
