A centipede is a bug. A caterpillar is a bug that turns into a butterfly.
A centipede is an arthropod but not an insect. It has a number of segments to its body, from about 15 to 300 (always an odd number). There are two legs to each segment.
A silverfish is a primitive, wingless insect with head, thorax and abdomen (although it does not look obviously segmented and has a shape like a fish). It has six legs connected to the thorax but also three cerci (which look a bit like legs) from the end of the abdomen.
Centipede's bite and silverfish do not bite.
