As long as you don't block the crosswalk, you should be good.
Added: The law may (and probably does) vary from state to state but in some it is within 25 feet of the crosswalk. This distance allows for the potential pedestrian AND the oncoming driver to have the oppotunity to see one another clearly.

It is unlawful every place that I know of, to park a vehicle on a public sidewalk. yes

Yes, it is illegal to park in an unmarked crosswalk. Blocking a crosswalk obstructs pedestrian pathways and can create a safety hazard for those crossing the street. It is important to park in designated areas to ensure pedestrian safety.
Concerning California law:No. To park at a corner would be blocking a crosswalk which is illegal. Note that a crosswalk does not have to be marked as such for it to be a crosswalk. In the state of Oregon it is illegal to park on a crosswalk but waiting to pick up up or drop off a passenger is an exception to that law.Check your state vehicle code book or ask a police officer if it is legal where you live.Added: No. Only while ACTIVELY ENGAGED in loading or unloading the individual. 20 feet
In my state: Washington - you may park no closer than 20 feet to a crosswalk, and no closer than 30 feet to a stop or yield sign, and no closer than 15 feet to a fire hydrant. Your state may well have different regulations.
