If you look around, you will find that it is as pervasive as it's behavioral manifestations, and ramifications, such as lying, stealing, assault, fraud, immorality, perversion, violence, volatility, humiliation, abuse, threats, intimidation, control, abuse of power and authority, criticism, judgmentalism, subjugation, poverty, racism, intolerance, injustice, parallel behavior, inhumanity, and callousness.

Sociopaths exist in all segments of society but being a shrewd business person does not make one a sociopath.

No, in fact, it's the opposite. There are many more straight sociopaths than gay ones.

There are 1 in 100. Not all are serial killers but many are white collar sociopaths or psychopaths. These cheat people out of money, are dishonest, and don't think they are wrong in what they do.

Yes, it is. Many sociopaths are narcissistic by nature (i.e. caring about themselves to an extreme). Munchausen's syndrome is related to narcissism, as it is focused on attention-getting. Most sociopaths do not have Munchausen's, but most people with Munchausen's are probably sociopaths (or at least narcissists).

Why do sociopaths smile at their victims?
It's called "Duper's Delight". Sociopaths get a thrill out of lying and getting away with it. When unsuspecting victims are duped into believing the sociopaths lies, the sociopath will often narrow thier eyes and curl up thier mouths around the corners. Many people are frightened by this look and never forget it once they see it.
