The Lord Jesus, knowing that the time had come for his departure from this world, instituted the Holy Eucharist at the Passover Supper.

It was to serve as a constant reminder of his sacrifice and promises. Just as the Jewish Passover served as a reminder of God's promise to the Jews, so to was the Eucharist to serve as a New Passover with Christ's blood acting for us as did the lambs blood for the Israelites in Egypt -an atonement and a new and everlasting Covenant.

at the last supper he broke the bread and shared it between himself and the 12 apostles and then he shared the wine and said ' This is my body and blood which is given out for you.'
