∙ 6y agoIt is not entirely certain how Poe's mother died though she was only 24 years old. Some reports say tuberculosis; some say pneumonia and others say it was some other type of lung ailment. It is unlikely that it was tuberculosis, since tuberculosis is a disease that usually takes time before causing death and Poes's mother had no history of the disease or being treated for it.
In 1890, a daughter of the family who took Rosalie Poe, Edgar's sister, into their home stated that Mrs. Poe had pneumonia.
