When did Fiji become independent from its colonists?

Fiji gained Indepandence from Britain in October 10th, 1970. Fiji achieved this by telling Britain that they are able to stand on their own feet. And so wish was granted. No arguments, disatisfaction, fight or whatsoever came in between.

Fiji didnt ask for Independence. The British grant Independence to Fiji because they thought Fiji is now capable of running itself into a country where the first constitution was written in 1980 revised in 1990, a new improved constitution was made in1997, abolished in 2006 and is currently under many decrees. The new constitution of Fiji is set to take place in 2014 before the Prime Minister election takes place.
