I do not know all about it, but Hong Kong was leased from China to the British for 99 years. When the Chinese asked fot it back 1842 Hong Kong Island was ceded to UK at the end of the first opium war. 1860 Kowloon was ceded 1898 New Territories was "borrowed" from China for 99 years. 1984 China negotiated HK back in 1997
