ok so i dont know the exact episodes of these but he stabs him sell in the chest with Rukia's sword and takes a lot of her power to become a substitute soul reaper. After Rukia's brother destroys his soul chain and soul sleep he goes to mister hat and clogs and he has him do 3 exercises that allow him to awaken his own soul reaper powers and bring his sword into it second state which it stays like that forever unless he goes to the third state. im not sure if he ever goes to the soul society and turns into a full soul reaper from his substitute statues that is what im looking up right now. hope this answers your question.
