well, that's easy!

he entered a comic he called 'Igdoof' to a newspaper, but they turned him down.

then an editor saw his stuff and seemed to like it. then they manufactured the book and then, the 1st diary of a wimpy kid book was born! does that answer your question? if it doesn't go search about it, or something.
