At first, Kelly Clarkson wanted to become a marine biologist but changed her mind after watching Jaws.Her singing ability was first discovered in 7th grade after the choir teacher heard her singing in the corridor and made her sign up for the school choir. So she did, and also starred in school musicals.After she left school, Kelly headed for Los Angeles to market herself to record labels. While there, she would up getting a role as an extra on Sabrina the Teenage Witch. She then hooked up with songwriter Gerry Goffin and began recording demos of his songs.But soon Goffin grew ill, her apartment burnt down, and her car got towed. She returned home for a while, but then went back to L.A. Shortly afterwards, her best friend Jessica entered her into American Idol. Her talent was soon recognized and she made her way on to live television.She made it to the top ten in the final and Kelly Clarkson was named the American public's American Idol 2002, and sang the song, A Moment Like This. Kelly Clarkson was first recognized when she participated in the first season of American Idol in 2002. She went on the be the winner of that first season in September 2002, and within weeks released her first single, "A Moment Like This" (with the double A-side, "Before Your Love"). "A Moment Like This" broke the long-held record (The Beatles held this record) for biggest leap to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, jumping from 52 to #1. In April 2003, her first album, "Thankful," was released, and did very well. The single "Miss Independent" did exceptionally well. In 2004, her sophomore album, "Breakaway," was released. The second single off of it, "Since U Been Gone," launched Kelly to the top position in the music world - she was no longer just a sweet pop star from a TV contest - she was now taken seriously as a musician and pop/rock singer. "Behind These Hazel Eyes," "Because Of You," and "Walk Away" furthered her popularity and fame. Her third album, 2007's "My December," revealed what a talented songwriter she was, for indeed she wrote every single song on it. The album was darker and had a heavier, more rock sound, and largely due to the lack of promotion it received by her record label, did not sell as well as her other albums. In my opinion, however, it was easily her best album yet. Kelly has regained her immenses popularity with the release of her fourth album, "All I Ever Wanted." So far it has spawned two singles, "My Life Would Suck Without You" (which broke her own record for biggest leap on the Hot 100, jumping from #97 to #1 in one week), and "I Do Not Hook Up." The third single is set to be "Already Gone," a ballad Kelly wrote.
